On Sunday 19 April 2026, Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and leaders from across the district arrived at Ross Park, embraced the Sunday sun, and got stuck into St George’s Day — and what a day it was.
Our Squirrels and Beavers spent the morning getting their craft on: measuring, cutting and sticking together card to make the biggest dragons imaginable. Naturally, given the tiring nature of such a task, a break in the sun was scheduled. Some chose to sunbathe, but all got stuck in around the fire pit, making the biggest s’mores we have ever seen. Let’s just say they enjoyed them, with most “leaving some leftover for later”… as it should be. Re-energised, the youngest two sections powered on to finish their dragon masks and tails, and posed for a photo when all was said and done.
Meanwhile, the Cubs and Scouts were on their own escapades, taking on a series of Taskmaster-esque challenges. Code-breaking, semaphore, compass skills and even competitive s’more making — yes, you read that right — ten challenges in all, to see who could take home the most points.
The prize? Eternal pride and glory, of course.
The day was rounded out by each section renewing their promise, and by the awarding of several adult awards. There are far too many to list individually, but the thanks are heartfelt and they are for all of you — for everything you have done, are doing, and will continue to do for Scouting. Whether you made it on the day to collect an award or not, this message is for you.
And a massive thank you to the district team for the countless hours that went into making the day happen. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. It really was a day packed full of fun for all involved.
